Born:  May 12, 1880     Jackson Junction, Iowa

Died:  October 12, 1942     Havre, Montana

General:     At the age of 24 Frank Jestrab went to Grafton, North Dakota, where he lived until 1904.  He then moved to Deering, North Dakota, where he established the firm of Frank Jestrab and Company, dealers in hardware, farm implements, etc.  He sold this company in the spring of 1910, and at that time came to Havre.  In Havre he filed on a homestead and then entered into the partnership of Jestrab Brothers with his brother Phillip. 

Involvement in Havre:     He was a member of the Eagles and the Yeomen, belonged to the Chamber of Commerce and was a member in the Catholic Church. 

Family Life:     In 1909 he married Anna U. Larsen and had two children, Frank, Jr. and Eleanor. 

 

 

Phillip F. Jestrab

 

Born:  May 2, 1884     Osnabrock, North Dakota

Death:  August 27, 1952     Havre, Montana

 
General:     Phillip went to the public schools in Grafton.  After high school he was employed with the Great Northern Railway as a telegraph operator for 8 months.  He then entered the establishment of his father at Pisek, North Dakota, where he learned the farm implement business.  After two years, Phillip and his older brother Frank, went into business at Deering, North Dakota under the name of Frank Jestrab and Company.  After the sale of this business in 1910, Phillip Jestrab traveled in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho looking for a new location and in the fall on 1910, took up a homestead near Havre.  He and Frank engaged in business under the name Jestrab Brothers at 333 1st street.  Their business grew steadily and became the largest in that line in northern Montana. 

Involvement in Havre:     Phillip Jestrab was a Democrat, a member of the Havre Chamber of Commerce and of the     Modern Woodmen of America.  He was a member of the Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, No. 1201.

Family Life:     He was the 4th in a family of 8 children.  His parents were Frank and Anna Jestrab, both who were from Austria-Hungary.  Phillip was married to Florence Fundeshide at Cando, North Dakota on December 20, 1910.  They had two songs John and Phillip, Jr.
